Back in 2004, MDS Advertising was one of the first to join the GreenChoice® program through Austin Energy, our local electricity provider. Ever since we signed on to be a GreenChoice® partner, 100% of our electricity has been counterbalanced by renewable, environmentally safe resources. As of March 2008, MDS has offset over 160,000 kilowatt hours of carbon dioxide emissions. All advertising and marketing services rendered here at our creative studio have been created using 100% renewable energy.

Why is Renewable Energy important?
Currently, most energy comes from fossil fuel combustions which produce pollution that damages the Earth’s atmosphere. GreenChoice® uses natural sources such as wind, sun, and methane gas to generate electricity. These resources are clean and unlimited. Unlike fossil fuels, they do not produce pollution.

How does it work?
GreenChoice® natural electricity is not directed to a specific home or business. Instead, Austin Energy receives daily deliveries of this natural electricity from places such as wind turbines in McCamey and Sweetwater, Texas. They also receive electricity from solar installations and landfill gas projects in Austin and San Antonio. Once Austin Energy receives these deliveries, it is mixed with the power from the generating plants. As a result, less electricity is needed from gas or coal-fired power plants. With every home and business that signs up with this program, the percentage of green power in the mix grows more and more.

What can you do?
If you live in the Austin area, visit www.austinenergy.com to learn more about implementing this program in your home or office. If you live outside the Austin area, contact your local energy provider to learn more about their renewable energy programs.
