MDS participates in a recycling program. We use a local service called TRI- Recycling to pick up our used paper, aluminum, glass, and plastic once a month. In one month alone, MDS Advertising recycles:

  • 380 lbs. of paper
  • 95 lbs. of aluminum
  • 35 lbs. of plastic
  • 285 lbs. of glass
  • 180 lbs. of cardboard

  • This makes our monthly total of recycled material 975 lbs. We save the equivalent of:

  • 5 trees
  • 488 Kwh of electricity
  • 2,925 gallons of water
  • 2 cubic yards of landfill space

  • Why is recycling important?
  • Approximately 75% of the trash
        Americans throw away each day
could be recycled, yet only 25%
        actually is.

  • If every Sunday newspaper were
        recycled, we could save nearly
        500,000 trees.

  • Aluminum cans have no limit to
the number of times they can
        be recycled.

  • Americans use over 80 billion
        aluminum soda cans every year.
        Recycling just one of these
        cans saves enough energy to
        run a television for three
        hours.

  • Each ton of recycled paper can
        save 17 trees, 380 gallons
        of oil, 4,000 kilowatts of
        energy and 7,000 gallons
        of water.

  • Recycling plastic saves twice as
much energy as burning it in
        an incinerator.

  • How does it work?
Recyclable products are taken to the factory and broken down into raw materials. Paper is mixed with water to create what is called “slurry”, metal is melted down by heat and plastic is ground and cleaned. These raw materials are then transported to manufacturers to create new products.

    What can you do?
If you live in the Austin area, visit TRI- Recycling’s website at www.trirecycling.com. to sign up for their program today. If you live outside the Austin area, contact your local recycling provider and see how easy it is to do your part in this global effort.
