In 2007, MDS implemented a carbon offset program to offset the carbon footprint of all employee air travel, business or personal. We also added to this program and began offsetting all employees’ commute to and from work. To counterbalance our carbon footprint, MDS Advertising uses CarbonFund.org to calculate the emissions given off by employee air travel and employee commutes. We then give contributions to CarbonFund.org to support carbon-reducing projects like reforestation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. Since 2007, MDS has offset over 100 tons of carbon dioxide.

Why is carbon offsetting important?
The carbon produced from daily activities changes the Earth’s climate and causes global warming. Here are some of the ways we see this in our daily lives:

  • Temperatures increase

  • Storms become more severe

  • Warm seasons last much longer

  • How does it work?
A carbon footprint is the amount of carbon emissions generated by energy-using activities. Watching television, baking a cake and turning on a light are all simple examples of how we emit carbon into the atmosphere. CarbonFund.org provides a Carbon Calculator that will gauge the amount of carbon dioxide used in specified activities. There are calculators for offsetting car travel, plane travel and even an entire household. After inputting a few simple numbers, CarbonFund.org calculates the tons of carbon dioxide emitted and the contribution needed to offset the carbon footprint.

    What can you do?
Join in our efforts and visit www.carbonfund.org to offset your carbon footprint for car travel and plane travel. You can also see how easy it is to calculate and offset your entire household or business.
